This is a slightly different take on everyone’s favorite peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The almond butter acts as the peanut butter and the honey replaces the jelly. As for the grilling of it, well you don’t have to, but it’s highly recommended. Any nut butter will work here, and you can use your favorite jam or jelly too, be creative, use what you have on hand, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll have a new favorite in no time.
Did you know: Good bread can be made with as little as 4 ingredients: flour, salt, yeast and water. Most commercial breads that you buy at the grocery store contain added sugars and artificial ingredients to keep the loaves shelf stable. While I’m not suggesting making your own unless you want to learn about the properties of flour and yeast (although it’s not terribly hard), you should buy bread at places that you know make it fresh with as few ingredients as necessary, such as a local bakery, or even supermarkets now have high end breads in their bakery sections. Not only will you make up for it in flavor, you’ll also get many more health benefits out of it. Fresh bread does not have near the same shelf life, however the pros far outweigh the cons on this one, at least for me.
Ingredients:
2 slices good quality whole wheat or multigrain bread
2 tsp creamy almond butter
1 tbsp honey
Butter
Directions:
Spread each slice of bread with almond butter on one side, butter on the other. Drizzle honey over almond butter and close to make a sandwich. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle to medium heat and cook each side of your sandwich until golden brown and your almond butter is slightly warm and slightly melted.
